Description

The restoration process usually goes through four phases. The first step is the evaluation of the damage that has occurred throughout your life that results in dents and bumps. The second step is the repair of said damages. The third step is the restoration of the patina and the original illustrations. In some cases, a coat of paint is applied emulating the centuries-old patina. And finally, a waxing with beeswax is applied to improve the conservation of each unique piece.
With an estimated age of around 1860, this hall sideboard maintains a high degree of preservation of its original illustrations. In this particular sideboard, the drawings on the fronts of each door represent an everyday scene of the time. You can see the mastery of the craftsmen both in the lacquer and patina and in the details of the women drawn on each front. Built with solid pine wood, it has two doors that give you access to a large interior space.

— HISTORIC NOTE —
The traditional Chinese dress called qipao 旗袍 was established by the Qing dynasty from the seventeenth century. The exact origin of this clothing was the organization into different classes
With the arrival of the Manchus to the imperial throne in the 17th century, many changes occurred in Chinese society at the time. The new Manchu dynasty called the Qing dynasty was hierarchically organized into eight parts called the eight-flag system. Each citizen dressed according to the membership of his family in a different flag. With the introduction of the Han ethnic group into the Manchu system, the Han people were forced to wear a certain piece instead of wearing the traditional dress from the Ming dynasty era. Since then, this Manchu clothing called qipao was institutionalized as traditional Chinese clothing.
In the 1920s, the qipao was popularized by the Chinese accommodating classes of the more cosmopolitan Shanghai and its use spread throughout the Western world.
