Description
Antique opera trunk with mandarin illustrations from the Imperial Chinese period (China, c.1890) #9
This oriental chest has been recovered and restored by hand. Estimated to be around 120 years old, our Chinese opera chest is made of solid pine wood. Due to the passage of time of its prolonged use, it exhibits some bumps but in general it presents a good state of conservation.
It is characterized by its illustrations in various colors that have been almost entirely preserved. In these drawings, there is an everyday scene in a typical Chinese garden accompanied by traditional floral motifs like lotus flowers. Two lotus blooms like appear in the drawings means wish for shared heart and harmony.
We like it for the detail on the faces of the characters in the illustrations…inimitable.
