Japanese tansu cabinet from the Taishō to early Shōwa period, a time when traditional furniture evolved toward more structured and functional forms, conceived for everyday use and the organization of domestic space.
Crafted from paulownia (Paulownia spp.), known as kiri, a light, stable, and moisture-resistant wood traditionally valued for storing utensils, textiles, and everyday objects.
Its composition combines sliding panel doors, a central open shelf, and a set of lower drawers in varying sizes, creating a carefully balanced relationship between closed and open storage. This configuration was typical of kitchen furniture (daidokoro tansu) and other multifunctional storage pieces within the Japanese home.
The sober wrought iron handles, together with the deep, even patina of the wood, give the cabinet a serene and honest presence. Restrained in design and well proportioned, it integrates naturally into contemporary, wabi-sabi, or Japandi interiors.
A piece with strong architectural character, ideal as a sideboard, storage cabinet, auxiliary kitchen unit, or focal element in a larger space.
The state of conservation is optimal, except for the characteristic imperfections of any antique produced by the passage of time.
Give a point of originality to your home with a unique piece, which merges with the contemporary style bringing personality to your home. This antique Japanese cabinet can be combined with any of our tv furniture or with our available antique vases.
