This antique Japanese Tansu was crafted during the late Meiji or early Taishō period, a time of quiet transformation in Japanese domestic life, when traditional furniture evolved to meet more practical daily needs while preserving its artisanal roots.

The piece is primarily made of paulownia wood, valued for its lightness, dimensional stability and resistance to humidity, with Japanese cedar used in certain structural elements. It features a well-balanced layout with four main drawers and a small lower side door, concealing two inner drawers—a discreet and uncommon detail that enhances both functionality and character.

Original forged iron hardware with a deep, aged patina reinforces the structure while adding visual strength. The side handles reflect its practical origins, allowing the chest to be easily moved when needed.

A restrained yet expressive storage piece, marked by time and use, ideal for refined interiors seeking authenticity and quiet presence.

The state of conservation is optimal, except for the characteristic imperfections of any antique produced by the passage of time.

Give a point of originality to your home with a unique piece, which merges with the contemporary style bringing personality to your home. This antique chest of drawers with small door can be combined with any of our wooden bowls or with our available antique kitchen islands.
