Japanese tansu storage chest made during the transition from the Taishō to the early Shōwa period, early 20th century. Originally designed for domestic use, it features a carefully organized layout with drawers of varying sizes for personal items, documents or small objects.

The cabinet showcases a dark lacquered outer structure, contrasting beautifully with the exposed wood drawer fronts, resulting in a restrained and well-balanced appearance. The original metal hardware, including pull handles and a lockable drawer, emphasizes its functional and authentic character.

Crafted from paulownia, valued for its lightness and stability, and reinforced with Japanese ash in structural areas, the piece combines durability with visual lightness. The surface displays a rich, natural patina developed over time through regular use.

A compact yet expressive piece, ideal as auxiliary storage, a tabletop tansu or an accent element in wabi-sabi, Japanese-inspired or contemporary interiors.

The state of conservation is optimal, except for the characteristic imperfections of any antique produced by the passage of time.

Give a point of originality to your home with a unique piece, which merges with the contemporary style bringing personality to your home. This small antique Japanese Tansu can be combined with any of our tv furniture or with our antique chairs available.
