Low Japanese tansu chest of drawers made during the Meiji period, late 19th to early 20th century. Designed for everyday domestic storage, this piece was traditionally used to store clothing, textiles or personal belongings.
The cabinet is entirely crafted from Japanese cedar, a lightweight and stable wood widely used in traditional furniture. It features three generously sized front drawers, offering practical and accessible storage.
The original metal hardware, including handles and corner reinforcements, strengthens the structure and adds visual character. The surface shows a deep, authentic patina, with signs of age consistent with its period.
A well-proportioned and restrained tansu, ideal as a low cabinet, sideboard or statement piece in contemporary, Japanese-inspired or wabi-sabi interiors.
The state of conservation is optimal, except for the characteristic imperfections of any antique produced by the passage of time.
