Large Japanese storage chest made between the late Meiji period and the early Taishō period, circa 1868–1926. This substantial domestic piece was designed for everyday use, providing generous storage for clothing, textiles or personal belongings.
The cabinet features a tall, well-proportioned structure with a series of large-capacity drawers, offering an excellent balance between functionality and visual presence. It is crafted from paulownia, valued for its light weight and dimensional stability, reinforced with Japanese cedar in structural areas.
The original metal hardware, simple and robust, enhances the character of the piece without overwhelming its design. The surface displays a warm, even patina, with signs of age consistent with its period, reinforcing its authenticity.
