Description
Antique pharmacy sideboard restored by hand (c.1840).
This unique piece was part of the furniture of an old pharmacy and was used to store the various medicinal herbs. As you can see, each drawer is titled with the corresponding medicinal herb. We have recovered and restored it by hand, maintaining its original splendor. It is estimated an approximate age of 180 years. It is made up of 35 small drawers aligned in 7 columns and 5 rows, plus 3 large drawers in the lower part of the cabinet. It is constructed of solid elm wood of considerable thickness. We found it in relatively good condition. This type of unique piece is highly valued by collectors. It is now difficult to find this type of antique furniture especially pieces in such a good state of preservation. In most cases, a thorough restoration with the addition of damaged parts is necessary.
Its restoration was based above all on the restructuring of some drawers that were broken and adding some of the metal closures that were damaged or missing. Even so, a good part of the original metal closures are still preserved where some Chinese characters of the time can be read. A real gem as a decorative piece of furniture.
