The illustrations of birds in Chinese art have been associated with the communication of a certain hidden meaning to the artistic work. Chinese culture has been built over millennia and its cultural richness is so vast that every artistic detail has some meaning. For example, the drawing of ducks combined with the lotus flower was synonymous with the desire for happiness. And the drawing of the crane used to be associated with a promotion in the hierarchy of the Imperial bureaucracy. There are endless meanings associated with drawing birds.
In the case of this sideboard, the drawing of parrots was very typical as a decorative motif on porcelain as it gave the piece vividness and color.
