Description
Ancient Chinese chest restored by hand. This red wooden chest has been restored by hand and is estimated to be 150 years old; so we dare to say that its year of construction was around the year 1870.
Composed of solid elm wood, this small chest is in perfect condition. It is characterized by its vermilion red patina, an archetypal color in Chinese culture that signifies good luck and happiness.
We also highlight the opening of the chest that instead of having a metal lock like most chests, it opens in a somewhat unique way. You can see this closure in some of our detail photos.
Regarding the construction of this ancient Chinese chest, once again the “dovetail” assembly technique has been used, also called dovetail. In earlier times and due to the shortage of products to glue, the construction of furniture was based on the perfect fit of the different pieces of wood. And the dovetail joint was one of the most used assemblies in the art of carpentry.

The dovetail joint is a joinery technique used thousands of years ago and is characterized by its great resistance. In this type of assembly, no type of queue is necessary and it allows it to persist over time. Examples of this type of assembly have been found in some pieces of furniture discovered in Egyptian burial chambers as well as in the tombs of Chinese emperors.
