This large Chinese vase has a height of 49cm and a diameter of 25cm. It is made up of two parts: the central body and a ceramic lid.
This tall vase is decorated with blue borders with a white background and an inscription of the duplicated character Xi 喜 . This character signifies jubilation, joy and desire for happiness. In traditional Chinese culture, duplicity of characters is very common to emphasize good omens. In particular, the character of ‘double happiness’ is widely used in daily life as well as in wedding ceremonies to wish for the happiness of the newlyweds. Also during the Chinese New Year celebrations, it is common to see it hanging on the doors of the houses as a welcome to a new year of happiness and good news.
