Original Japanese tansu from the Meiji period, conceived in a vertical format with solid proportions and designed as a high-capacity domestic storage cabinet. Crafted from paulownia, a light and stable wood, the piece features a robust construction intended for durability and ease of movement—essential qualities in late 19th-century Japan.
The composition of four large drawers is articulated by circular black iron fittings and side carrying handles, reinforcing its clearly functional origins. The surface preserves a rich, deep patina, with traces of use consistent with its age, resulting in a pronounced and authentic wabi-sabi character.
A balanced and powerful piece, suitable as a primary chest of drawers, auxiliary storage, or focal element within contemporary, Japanese, or eclectic interiors.
