Description
Solid wood wardrobe with recovered antique doors (c.1900).
This rustic wardrobe is made of pine wood. It should also be noted that it was built with antique doors over a hundred years old.
We recovered these doors originally used as front doors to houses and patios. Subsequently, they have been carefully restored by hand. Using a stripping process we have brought out the natural color of century-old wood, and finally beeswax has been applied for optimizing conservation.
The structure accompanying the doors has been chosen with the wood tone most similar to the wood of the old doors, thus creating a seamless fusion between the new and the old.
This wardrobe consists of a pair of doors with two interior shelves. We used very thick wood because we want to give each piece of furniture solidity, and in this way this ensure the wardrobe will last a lifetime …

— HISTORIC NOTE —
Going deeper with the recovery of its old doors, we can tell you that they were part of the entrance doors to houses and palaces. The traditional Chinese architectural structure was the so-called siheyuan (四合院).
This architectural complex was the basis of the residences of the Chinese wealthy society of the imperial era. It was based on a rectangular central courtyard surrounded by four buildings where each one performed a different function both in terms of social position and division of tasks.
Many residences of this type used to be temples, palaces, or residences of Empire officials, wealthy merchants, and wealthy families of the time. Various siheyuan formed a network of alleys called hutong (胡同). These types of structures still exist around the forbidden city of Beijing although the Chinese economic boom and the absence of basic amenities is displacing its residents into buildings of more recent construction.
