Original Japanese low table in the Shōwa style, conceived as a functional piece for everyday use in domestic interiors. Its design reflects a period in which traditional woodworking techniques were still fully present, yet increasingly refined toward sober, practical, and rational forms.
The piece is crafted from a combination of Japanese cedar (Cryptomeria japonica) and kalopanax (Kalopanax septemlobus), two woods commonly used in 20th-century Japanese furniture for their lightness, stability, and good performance in changing humidity conditions. The subtle contrast between both species is especially visible in the drawer interiors and structural elements, adding material richness without the need for ornamentation.
Defined by a low profile and elongated proportions, the table features two integrated front drawers. Its structure is clear and well balanced, with flat lateral legs that reinforce its horizontal and stable presence. The visible wear on the top surface and drawer fronts is consistent with decades of use, resulting in an honest and natural patina.
