Antique Pharmacy Cabinet with Original Patina (China, c.1840) #1
This unique piece was part of the furniture of an old pharmacy and was used to store the different medicinal herbs. As you can see, each drawer is titled with the corresponding medicinal herb. We have recovered and restored it by hand while maintaining its original splendor to the maximum. It is estimated an approximate age of 180 years.
It is made up of 36 small drawers aligned in 6 columns and 6 rows, plus 3 large drawers in the lower part of the cabinet. It is constructed of solid elm wood with a considerable wood thickness by today’s standards. We found it in pretty good condition. This type of unique pieces are highly valued by collectors. Currently it is not only difficult to find this type of antique furniture, but it is also difficult to find pieces with a good state of conservation. In most cases, a thorough restoration with additions of damaged parts is necessary.
Its restoration was based above all on the restructuring of some drawers that were broken and adding some of the metal closures that were damaged or missing. Even so, a good part of the original metal closures are still preserved where some Chinese characters of the time can be read. It has also been restored maintaining the original patina.
